Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is a gentle but powerful hands-on therapy. It empowers your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels to bring harmony and balance into your life. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: ‘Rei’, meaning higher power, and ‘ki’ meaning life force energy. Loosely translated, Reiki means ‘universal life force energy’. Good health is achieved when our life force is balanced and allowed to flow freely. Life force is more commonly known as energy; it is an invisible force that gives life to the human body and everything in the natural world including animals, plants and trees. The way life force flows through us greatly affects our health. When blocked, it leads to disturbances which will eventually manifest as an illness or a state of disharmony.

During a Reiki treatment, the practitioner uses life force energy to clear blockages to restore balance and wellbeing and to release the clients energy to flow freely through them.

Having a Reiki Treatment

During a Reiki treatment, the practitioner places their hands gently on or over specific points on the client’s body. The client may experience certain sensations as Reiki energy flows through the practitioner’s hands.

Some clients feel sensations such as heat, tingling or coolness. Most people find that a Reiki treatment helps them go into a deep, relaxed state and it is not unusual for people to fall asleep during the treatment.
