Morrigan and Crow Figurine Bronze Ornament 28cm
The Morrigan was a Celtic goddess of the Tuatha de Danann known as the ‘great queen’, ‘phantom queen’ and ‘queen of nightmares’. She is associated with war, death, fate and destiny. The Morrigan was a triple goddess who appeared as either one of three goddesses and as the maiden, mother or crone. As a shapeshifter she could also transform into the wind or any animal, fish or bird. She favoured the form of crow or raven (both associated with death, bad fortune, or rebirth). As a bird she flew over battles inspiring warriors to fight for their lives. However her terrible shriek was often an omen of misfortune and death.
